The beginnings of a large monorail system are under construction in Tehran. The system is the first to be designed and built by IKCM (International KISH Control Mechanic Co.). Trains will be automatically operated and controlled. The basic monorail train will have a capacity for 870 passengers. Maximum speed will be 80 km/h. According to the IKCM website, each monorail can be driven under electrical or diesel/electrical power. The intitial line will be 7.5 km, with plans existing to build out to 38 km.
