Eurotren Monoviga Propulsion
The EM 403 trains, with 3 "cars,"
use 6-90kW electric motors. Maximum acceleration and deceleration
is 1 m/s2. Maximum rated speed is 200km/h (125mph). For speeds
above 200 km/h, the EM 500 was developed. In this design, steel
wheels are substituted for the rubber tires, and linear induction
motors (LIMs) are substituted for conventional motors. The original
LIM designed for these trains were from the project Eureka Project
EU277. This project, which was a joint venture between EMSA and
Linermot Ltd. of England, was to replace the conventional electric
motors in EMSA's new series of trains.
