Karl Buiter brings us the first images of the south end construction photos. Thank you Karl!
Probably the most challenging to build portion of the four-mile
system is between Harrah's and Bally's. The alignment follows
a very narrow alley way. Not only that, but two stations will
be built back here, one for the Flamingo Hilton and the other
for Harrah's/Imperial Palace.
A graceful s-curve is being built between the alley, across
Flamingo Road, and up to the Bally's building.
To avoid going all the way around the Bally's Resort, this cut-through
is being built for a future monorail tunnel.
Looking down from the Paris Resort parking lot on the Bally's
cut-through. Will the tunnel have light effects like Space Mountain?
Probably not, but it's a fun idea.
The Bally's station has been cut off from the old Mark IV storage
building forever. Beams are being removed so that the MGM-Bally's
line can connect to the rest of the new system.
At the other end of the MGM-Bally's run, a switch platform is
being installed for trains to switch beams and reverse direction
for the run back north. The platform parallels Tropicana Avenue.
A single beam will be here at the end of the line for direction
reversal.
And finally, now minus a storage facility, two very capable Mark
IVs sit idle mid-span awaiting their fate. Wouldn't it be nice
if they were used to start another system somewhere?
